Packing Tips

Tips:

  • Bring enough clothes for a few different occasions (casual, dress/church, outreach, working outdoors)
  • The laundry mat is across the street. 100 Baht for wash and dry
  • You can purchase your Thai uniform at the nearby mall when you arrive (you will need to wear during class time)
  • Personal items can be purchased at the mall also – your VABC family will gladly escort you within the first week.

Things to bring:

  • Passport
  • English Bible
  • Phone/laptop/camera if you have one + necessary chargers
  • Bedding (twin fitted sheet, light blanket, pillow & pillowcase)
    (unless you’d like to purchase in Thailand)
  • Quality water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Personal toiletries (note for women: Thai sanitary products are different than what you have available in the west, so you may want to bring your own)

Things to purchase when you arrive:

  • Towel(s)
  • Pens & notebook
  • SIM card, if you choose to use a phone as method of contacting family
  • Shower shoes (flip flops/thongs)

Clothes to bring:

  • Neat casual wear – modest shorts, pants/jeans, t-shirts
  • Sweater/jumper/cardigan
  • Women dress wear: church clothes, dresses, skirts, shirts that cover the shoulders
  • Men dress wear: collared shirt and a tie
  • Something dressy (smart casual to semi formal) for graduation in April
  • Modest bathing suit: board shorts (men), one piece or tankini with shorts (women)
  • Jacket
  • Walking shoes, casual shoes, dress shoes and shower shoes (flip flops/thongs)
  • Socks, underwear

Optional items:

  • Umbrella/raincoat
  • Hairdryer, hair straightener, razor, etc (please be aware of the power voltage compatibility)
  • Flashlight
  • Personal medications or dietary supplements
  • Travel size first-aid kit
  • Travel size sewing kit
  • Musical instrument(s)
  • Bug spray

Jungle trip:

  • Hiker’s backpack, and a day backpack (needs to be easy for you to handle as we travel from village to village)
  • Warm clothes, pajamas, long underwear, socks
  • Clothes you can get dirty and possibly ruin
  • Sleeping bag
  • Travel-sized toiletries (we shower in the river)
  • Toilet paper, baby wipes, hand sanitizer (can be purchased in Thailand)
  • Garbage bags for dirty clothes
  • Water bottle
